Placement quiz
Find your Spanish level
Answer 30 short questions covering vocabulary, grammar, and reading comprehension, and we'll estimate your approximate CEFR level (from A1 to C2) so you can jump straight to stories that match where you are.
This is a quick, informal estimate meant to point you to the right stories. It is not an official CEFR assessment or certification.
How the quiz works
The 30 questions are organized into six groups of five, one per CEFR level, and get progressively harder: starting with basic vocabulary and present-tense sentences, and ending with near-native lexical precision, layered irony, and inference from short passages. You'll see one question at a time and can move back and forth before finishing.
Your estimated level isn't just your total score: it's the highest level where you answer most questions correctly and every easier level too. That keeps a lucky guess on one hard question from outweighing a shaky grasp of the basics. All scoring happens in your browser; nothing you answer is sent anywhere or saved.
The CEFR scale, in brief
CEFR (the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) is the same A1–C2 scale used by most language courses and textbooks. Spanish Stories currently publishes stories across all six levels:
You can understand and use very basic phrases, introduce yourself, and follow simple everyday sentences when people speak slowly and clearly.
Browse A1 stories →You can understand short, simple texts and handle everyday situations (shopping, directions, routines) and follow basic past-tense storytelling.
Browse A2 stories →You can follow the main points of everyday Spanish, handle most situations while traveling, and describe experiences, plans, and opinions in your own words.
Browse B1 stories →You can understand the main ideas of more complex text, follow conversation at a near-natural pace on familiar topics, and express yourself with reasonable fluency.
Browse B2 stories →You can understand demanding, longer texts and recognize implicit and nuanced meaning, express yourself fluently and spontaneously, and use language flexibly for social, academic, and professional purposes.
Browse C1 stories →You can understand virtually everything you read or hear with ease, pick up on irony, subtext, and shifts in register, and express yourself precisely and fluently even on complex or abstract subjects.
