Mateo is ten years old and lives in a small house with his parents and his sister.
Every day after school, he rides his bicycle around his neighborhood.
His bicycle is red.
It isn't new, but Mateo loves it very much.
One Wednesday, Mateo gets home at three.
He leaves his backpack in his room and quickly goes downstairs.
He wants to ride his bicycle.
But when he gets to the place where he always leaves his bicycle, he doesn't see it.
"Where is my bicycle?"
He looks behind the door.
Nothing.
He looks in the garden.
Nothing.
He looks next to his father's car.
It isn't there either.
Mateo goes inside the house.
"Mom, have you seen my bicycle?"
His mother is in the kitchen.
"No. Isn't it in the garden?"
"No."
"And your father? Maybe he knows something."
Mateo looks for his father.
His father is in the garage.
"Dad, have you seen my red bicycle?"
His father thinks.
"No, but this morning it was in the garden."
Mateo goes back to the garden.
He looks at the ground.
There are some small tire marks.
He follows them.
The marks go from the garden to the street.
Mateo goes out into the street.
First he looks to the right.
Then he looks to the left.
He doesn't see the bicycle.
At that moment, his friend Sofía walks past his house.
"Hi, Mateo. What are you doing?"
"I'm looking for my bicycle. I don't know where it is."
Sofía looks at the marks on the ground.
"Are they from your bicycle?"
"Yes."
Sofía follows the marks with her eyes.
"Look. They go to Daniel's house."
Daniel is another boy from the neighborhood.
Mateo and Sofía walk to his house.
The red bicycle is there.
Mateo is surprised.
"What is my bicycle doing here?"
Daniel comes out of his house.
"Mateo! I'm sorry."
"Why do you have my bicycle?"
Daniel points to the wheel.
"My bicycle has a problem. I saw your bicycle in the garden and thought it belonged to my father."
Mateo looks at Daniel.
Then he looks at his bicycle.
"You thought it was your father's?"
Daniel laughs.
"Yes. Your bicycle was next to his."
Mateo laughs too.
"Well, now I understand."
Daniel takes the bicycle and gives it to Mateo.
"I'm sorry."
"It's okay."
Sofía looks at the clock.
"It's four. Shall we go to the park?"
Mateo looks at Daniel.
"Do you want to come?"
Daniel smiles.
"Yes."
The three of them go to the park on their bicycles.
Mateo thinks it has been a strange day.
First he loses his bicycle.
Then he finds his bicycle at a friend's house.
And in the end, he has a new friend to ride bicycles with.
